In the first two iterations of the course, (Dis)Placed Urban Histories, in Spring 2015 and Spring 2016, students were charged with historicizing the process of gentrification in South Williamsburg, Brooklyn, through archival research and oral history. This course was offered in collaboration with Southside United HDFC, also known as “Los Sures.” In spring 2015, students produced an exhibit on-site in South Williamsburg, tracing the history of the neighborhood from European settlement to the present. In spring 2016, students were matched with long-time neighborhood residents to co-produce oral histories and an archive, which were hosted on an Omeka site. The students also mounted an exhibit on-site in South Williamsburg.
